"Largo Desolato," by Vaclav Havel is one of my top 5 favorite plays of all time. Someday, when I have the coin, I'll start a little theatre and produce plays like LD, and other of my favorite works. Sure, I might have to pay people to come see them, too, but maybe I can make up that expense with banner ads and commercial breaks in the play.

  • @nir1971 Havel is my greatest hero, him and John Lennon. His political ideologies are not based on being bourgeois, but being anti-communist, against the suppression of the very human right to express oneself. I know everything there is to know about this guy pretty much. He simply wanted freedom, and if you Communism (note the capital c) gave that, then you are strongly mislead. He wanted freedom of the soul for all, not just for the proletariat or the bourgeoisie. GREAT PLAY!!!

  • well I read it in Turkish in my teenage years, and I was impressed.. even though I am not an actual fan of Havel, I liked this one.. I mostly oppose his polical ideology, being bourgeois etc...

  • Thanks so much for the review! I just saw a performance of Largo Desolato last night at the American Repertory Theater and found it to be subtle, yet highly rewarding.
