On Thursday, September 29, Matthew J.W. Higginson, LEAF's Marketing & Communication Coordinator went out in the field with Andrea Bake, arborist and Field Supervisor, to plant several trees in backyards across North York. This video takes you on a brief journey of the day.
In the fall of 1996, Janet McKay started a small tree planting project. Since, LEAF has become a leading voice on urban forest issues in Southern Ontario, planting over 16,000 trees and shrubs across Toronto, York Region and the surrounding areas. Along the way we've educated thousands through our education and stewardship projects, working to build a greater sense of community around the urban forest.
Each planting season, staff spend at least one day planting trees and shrubs to support the program, and gain insight into the work that we are doing. By joining the frontlines, staff has a greater appreciation of the issues our urban forest is faced with, and what we as an organization are doing about it.
