My personal top 10 list of the best moments of Wagner's Der Ring Des Nibelungen.

Here we are at number 5, and you may think it an odd choice, this not being the most memorable part of the Cycle typically. However, when I listen to Fricka hitting the high notes at 03:00 onwards, I am simply moved to tears. I know that's not terribly cool, but I can say that out of all the moments in the Ring, this is the one which truly moves me in just a few short bars. The reason this moment isn't higher in the list is that it's just not long enough. Still, for me, it stuns me every time with its haunting beauty.

The recording is Herbert Von Karajan's Ring, Das Rheingold, recorded in 1966-70.

  • In order to understand the MAGNITUDE of Wagners musical genius ,you must hear the rings every not again and again each time something more magnificent will strike you , the musical complexity is so vast and genius is so deep that in order to mobilize your feelings a certain piece must be heard numerous times in order to be comprehended by your brain and then decoded into feeling.

  • This is definitely the best Ring, with gerhard Stolze as the best Loge ever....This is Rheingold, not Walkure...
