AIDET stands for acknowledge, introduce, duration, explain and thank. The acronym is part of a communication model that was developed by the Studer Group to help health care providers provide outstanding service to their patients. Christiana Care began to use the AIDET model in October 2010, as part of the patient and family centered care initiative at Wilmington Hospital. Today, nurses, physicians and other hospital staff are finding that AIDET can lay the groundwork for a successful partnership among patients, their families and their health care providers.
