The baby in the United Way commercial (Howie Long's son) is now a defensive end for the St. Louis Rams. That's kind of cool to see him as a baby in a commercial.

Commercials back then were so sweet to listen to.

Looking at IBM's old ads...I can see why most people went with something else for their home computer in 1986 (and most other years of the 1980s). Also, I have an old chair in my bedroom similar to the one the "fake charlie chaplin" is sitting in (except mine is a lovely green vinyl/off-white plastic combination)

I'm sure the kids in that ad were really jazzed to see The Cotton Club and A Passage to India.
When I was a kid, I didn't realize that that wasn't the actual Charlie Chaplin doing the IBM ads. Indeed, the first time I saw the real Chaplin, I thought he was ripping off IBM, not the other way around.
Has any group of guys, anywhere, paid that close attention to a talking head ad selling insurance?
Wow! Howie Long looks so young! And what's the deal with "Memory" as the background music?

Is it true that Tom Cruise's Jerry McGuire character was based in part on Leigh Steinberg?
-
That "100% Guaranteed...period" line really sounded familiar. Did B of A use that slogan a lot throughout the 80s? 86 seems a tad too early for me to remember a commercial (I was 2.5 years old when these aired.)

i was just thinking the exact same thing.

Beer commercials sure have changed, jeez.
I thought VW was German, not Japanese.

@kari00ws6 Volkswagen IS German. The Golf commercial is saying that the Japanese import cars too, and also drive VW's.
