This is a video of some of the animals that live around and visit a small waterhole at Trephina Gorge in the East MacDonnell Ranges, about 70km east of Alice Springs. Water in a great magnet to the animals living in the outback and a fantastic place to spend a few hours and see what comes in.

The animals in the video are White-plumed Honeyeater, Peaceful Dove, Pied Butcherbird, Zebra Finch, Painted Finch, Long-nosed Dragon, Magpie-lark and Ta-ta Lizard.

  • Hi Waywardmuse. Long-nosed Dragons are quite common along rivers and waterholes in arid Western Australia. It's funny not many have video of them, because they are often fairly tame and curious animals.

  • those painted and zebras where buets:)

  • I really enjoyed this. Working on something similar regarding wildlife that congregates around a pond in the Sonoran Desert. First time to see a long-nosed dragon! Are sightings rare? I've never seen Irwin or any other aussie's talk about them in show. Nice work!

  • nice vid
