The South West Snow Project was a year in the making. It took place on a rural property south of Perth, Western Australia and is believed to be the first serious attempt at a snowboard jump in Western Australia.

The project involved about six tonnes of flake ice, a tonne of soil, 120 square metres of carpet and a hay bale. The jump took about ten hours to create and the 'snow' lasted about eighteen hours thanks to some favourable weather.

The event was filmed using a Canon 5D mkII and a 7D with a variety of lenses, Rode microphones, Manfrotto tripods and edited in Final Cut Pro.

We are already planning the next jump which will be bigger and better now we know what we're doing! Stay tuned. Post a comment if you are interested in being involved.

  • G'day, that time it was free thanks to a generous mate.

We have just made the South West Snow Project Part ll so subscribe to our channel for the video - coming very soon. The ice wasn't free this time but you need a couple of grand's worth of ice to get a full day of boarding in unless you live somewhere where the temp is constantly below 0 which is nowhere in West Oz!

  • hats down to ya guys! how long did the "snow" last?

  • @narxonja

Thanks mate. We got about 18 hours out of the 'snow' with the temperature around 5 - 15 degrees (celcius). We didn't wax our boards which was a mistake and cost us a lot of speed in the run-up especially when the air temp rose in the morning. We won't make that mistake again.

The snow ran fastest late at night and first thing in the morning so anyone thinking to have a crack at this should be aiming to start jumping at sundown and be prepared for a huge night!

  • Finally people have the drive and urge to do something like this is WA! Great idea and very keen to see the next installation. Keen to get involved.

  • Cheers mate. We are in the early stages of planning a competitive event somewhere in WA in the future. We're not pretending it will be as good as a trip to the real snow but we'll certainly make it happen if its possible.
