As of some time between 8 and 9 PM yesterday (1/6/10), YouTube permanently suspended my MolecularBioVids account with no warning and with no e-mail message of any kind. My video series on the endogenous retroviral evidence for common ancestry is gone, and the message displayed when using the URL is; "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation." Since I only had two videos, it couldn't have been the result of false flagging, and since YouTube won't tell me anything, I don't know why I've been removed.
The worst part is that YouTube also decided to remove every comment I ever left on every video I ever left them on. Use the URLs in this video's description area to visit some of the conversations I had; notice how there are people addressing a 'MolecularBioVids,' yet there are no comments by such a user. Over the past 9 months or so, I have commented on dozens of videos, corrected the misinformation spread by dozens of creationists, and left quite literally hundreds of comments (partially due to the way I cite research publications to support much of what I say).
I can live with my video series on ERVs being deleted. I can even live with every interaction in the series' comment sections being removed. But for YouTube to censor everything I ever said on that account is reprehensible.
I often had to be firm with creationists that repeatedly engaged in dishonest tactics during our discussions, but I always remained civil, even when directly insulted. Since this isn't the result of false video flagging, I can only imagine what it might be.
My only guess is this:
Over the past week or so, I had a lengthy discussion with NephilimFree on a comment section (link in description area). He made canned argument after canned argument on everything from polonium halos, to HOX genes, Sia N-glycolylneuraminic acid deficiency in humans, to the CMP-N-acetylneuraminic acid hydroxylase pseudogene, to genetic dissimilarity among primates somehow dictating retroviral insertion species-specificity, yet he never provided a singe citation to support any of them or even respond to my refutation and to the research I cited that proved him wrong. Instead, he just kept parroting his claims over and over nearly verbatim, and pretending I hadn't refuted them.
After a while, he began posting his responses to me (and other random arguments) on the video itself, so his comments wouldn't show up in my inbox. In response, I frequently checked that video comment section and refuted each claim he made, regardless of where he made it. About a day and a half after that began, my account was deleted and my comments censored without warning or contact.
I suppose it is possible that NephilimFree contacted YouTube and said that I was harassing him, and they responded without even bothering to look into it.
I have no way of knowing if this scenario is accurate, but if not; then what? My two videos were purely scientific, and my comments were civil. Why else would YouTube systematically eradicate that channel and all its communications?
The next video I was working on (the script is completed) was an observable example of a beneficial mutation in humans; the R332Q mutation within the SPRY domain's restriction determination patch of the human tripartite motif-containing 5 alpha antiviral protein gene.
...but what's the damn point? And what's the point of refuting false claims of creationists in comment sections? What's the point, when YouTube will gladly censor everything I say, do, display, etc, in a heartbeat, simply because some creationist would rather silence me than admit their inability to discuss the issues?
This is the second one of my accounts that people have successfully removed thanks to YouTube's blind compliance.
As of 32 days from now, on February 8, 2010, I will have been on YouTube for 3 years. I no longer have much to show for it. I really don't know how much longer I can keep putting work into a site that takes it all away without thinking twice.
