  • BRING BACK STEAM TRAINS,IT WOULD BE A TOURIST ATTRACTION and leave these boring characterless ex london from bloody bygone era get working winter time,Damn lord beeching for closing most of the lines on the island, but ime glad to hear the government are putting money into opening branch lines.

  • @citroeno There are steam trains on the island, on the isle of wight steam railway in fact. These being a tourist attraction. Unfortunately the other railway has the role of transporting children to school, people to work and tourists as well. How would you run the steam loco round at each end, considering Shanklin is a single track terminus? How would a steam train keep to the stringent timings required for the line so that a frequent service can be achieved?!

  • @alrispoli they did it for a hundered odd years before these were invented...

  • @claypiesexygod But, even on Vectis, times change! Today's timetable requirement mean they couldn't manage it anymore!

  • There is no room in the Ryde tunnels for anything larger than 1938 Stock. Hence why it is used.

  • @citroeno Steam is also far more of a bygone era

  • @Charlesn132 Yes, I have heard this as well. The 73ts is just as suitable, however there is no iminent replacement for them so the Island may to cope with the 38ts a little while yet!

  • @alrispoli They most likely won't be replaced by 67 or 72 stock, they will probably want 73 stock.

It has to do with the 67/72 stock not having doors at the cab I heard.

  • @alrispoli easily could. They manage it in china some of the busiest railways on the face of the earth

  • That problem is sctraching sound of your hand onto the camera. I put mute on it the view. Anyway, Very nice local railway lines.

  • @citroeno - When was the announcement made that the Government would be reopening brach lines, in a time of cutbacks it sadly seems unlikely to happen. However I do support the Lib Dem idea of divering £3 billion of road tax money into reopening lines, will it ever happen? Also I cannot understand why the IOW Steam railway does not extend as near to Newport as possible. They have shot themselves in the foot by burying the old bridge at Wooton, most of the route is still intact to Newport!

  • @alrispoli Life on the isle the islad has 2 speeds slow and stop, and i was talking about using steam in the summer and even then people arnt in a hurry as there on holiday,or old or just slow, sow steam would match the pace of life,i give you one example on a bus from ryde to ventnor the bus driver actually waited for this lady to come out of her house and walk down the garden and walk over to the bus, well if that happened on the main land there would be up roar.NOW THATS HOW SLOW LIFE IS .
