I feel like I'm in the the twilight zone....paying kids 2 do what they r suppose 2 do, does no one think this is odd. Should fathers b paid 4 taking care of their kids, should people get paid 4 not going 2 jail, should I get paid 4 taking a dump in a toilet instead of on the livingroom floor?.... this is teaching kids 2 do the right thing only if there is a profit involved. Great now we raise kids with no integrity & no morals. I guess we should pay kids 4 listening 2 there parents.

@tonna15 AMEN! There is a behavior model that is popular called "PBS." This is Positive Behavior System. The school's staff gives fake money or some kind of token to students that meet certain expectations. This has been implemented in many schools, with AWESOME feedback. Focus on the good and try to prevent the negative behavior.

Who cares if these kids have to get paid to go to school? Whatever gets them through the door! Positive reinforcement works :)

I don't know that closing the education will help black kids. When a white HS dropout has more opportunities than a black HS graduate, it makes you think that it's the kids who dropout are the smart ones. They know what they're up against and they're not wasting their time on pipe dreams. Y

Yeah, some people make it. But struggling everyday of your life to prove you're just as good as other people is stupid. No white kid has to put up with that sort of crap.

If there was proper support, incouragement, and motivation at home they wouldn't need to try this other form of self motivation. An older sibling who graduated and became successful to inspire these kids would help. I don't like the cash incentive but look at our society today. All about instant gratification not long term planning and not about future goals being satisfied at a later date. They got to try something new in this materlistic and instant gratification society we live in today.

Some of these comments are so ignorant. All of this "black people have it so good, its so unfair". First off, this does not represent every Black person in America, only the small sample size they are using for this story. Are your perceptions really that distorted?

And for you who believed in the 'hype', that black children are somewhere, here and there being paid to attend school, as if some thrid-grader is contimplating dropping out at the fourth-grade to afford them some Jordans instead, is the average mentality of young black students, then shame on you, and victory for the
