The Gila Cliff Dwellings in New Mexico are amazing.
You can actually walk inside the cliff dwellings themselves and feel as if transported back to a long lost time. Like me, you'll probably find yourself fascinated by their fantastic creations and wonder what life must have been like for the people who lived there.
In this video you will see the Gila wilderness area, the Gila river, the cliff dwellings, and some petroglyphs.
If you're lucky enough to visit this place make sure you wear good hiking boots because the trail to the cliff dwellings is rocky and steep.
Also, these cliff dwellings are located in a very remote area of New Mexico with no services whatsoever. So make sure you fill up your vehicle with gas in Silver City, carry plenty of drinking water, and pack a picnic lunch before you head out on your adventure. FYI -you might also like to watch the video I made of the Cochise stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains.

  • My Dad took me here last summer, as well as to a Ghost Town called Mogollon, you should visit it!

  • Cool! Just too bad I moved away from Arizona. Who knows if I'll ever get the chance to visit that area again.

  • wow this is cool! i live in silver city too it is really nice beeing there i love it.

  • I agree:) I'm glad I had the chance to visit Silver City. Thanks!

  • Beautiful video. Wonderful New Mexico. My wife and I visited the Gila Cliff Dwellings in april 2008. Proud to walk in the footsteps of the ancient people. Also many thanks to the Rangers Staff who were very helpful with us and as we are aged, accompanied us back to the parkingplace so that we arrived safe at our car.

  • It sounds like you had a fun adventure.

The trail leading up-to and away-from the dwellings is rocky and a little steep in some places.

But I'm happy to hear the staff there was helpful and accommodating to you and your wife.

    Thanks for your nice comment:^)

  • After the fire of 2011 this place will be more awesome. There is another dwelling site further back if you have a knowledgeable guide.
