i blame steve spurrier for his career lou holtz had this kid one foot in the league and the ol head ball coach switch him from quarterback to wide receiver then the corner back words from willie beamen (He move me to corner back cuz he said I got quick feet I'm a quarter back I don't tackle 230 pound muthafucks)
The achilles tendon happened during the early part of his career. He came back and started for Carolina as the QB after the injury. The thing that killed his chance at a pro career was Carolina. You do not play at a athlete at four different positions and then play them well. Syvelle could throw and run better than 90% of the "pro QB's in the NFL today. The same as Cam Newton. I guess he is not a pro QB either.
Man, Syvelle Newton was a great Gamecock who cared. He didnt care what position he played. He played wherever the team needed him. We need more guys that cared as much as Syvelle. Maybe this year can be our year. GO COCKS!
yep, he was a joy to watch... hes an amazing athlete and its a shame he didnt make it to the NFL... he could literally play just about any skill position.

@pmb76 His biggest reason for not making the NFL was a torn achilles tendon. He wasn't a pro QB.

He would have made it to the NFL had he not attended South Carolina. What a shame for a coach not to use that talent as a quarterback full time.
