WDY, one of the country's very first licensed commercial radio stations, was operated by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in the Marconi radio factory (now the Romerovski Bros. building) just a few blocks from my apartment in my adopted home of Roselle Park, New Jersey. The station lasted only a couple of years in the early 1920s, doomed to oblivion like so many early stations.
But what if WDY had survived, through prosperity and depression, war and domestic strife and peace, bobby socks and Beatles, into at least the early '70s?
It would have needed a groovy station ID jingle.
And so here is one. Approximate era depicted: early 1970.
I recorded this entirely on my PC using Reaper (an awesome shareware DAW, kind of a poor man's combination of ProTools and Sonar for a fraction of the price) and a selection of free VST plug-ins. I played all the instruments and supplied all the voices.
Pointless, geeky retro fun. Enjoy.
