Dr. Ed Welch responds to a question submitted on our website asking "can I just blame my bipolar condition for my behavior?" Check out more videos, podcasts and articles at our website http://www.CCEF.org.
"Fear of God" is not going to have any effect on bipolar behavior. Bipolar Disorder is a medical illness caused by factors like heredity, neurotransmitter function and chemical action on brain activity. Your fear of God can't help you think your way out of bipolar any more than it can help you think your way out of any disease. Like diabetes, bipolar must be attended to by medical doctors and medication. A person's faith may help them weather the difficulties of living with a medical condition
What does Welch even mean by bipolar considering biblical counseling's questioning of secular diagnostic criteria? I think Adams is at least honest, even if I disagree with him. Welch is just disingenous.

I thought the question was more about the "made me do it" part, and the "I can't help it excuse." Wasn't clear with the answer given.
