The classic company sales bell, rung on every new purchase, except that this one is robotic. A ruby script running on a Mac (not pictured) periodically checks an email account for new sales, parses the message, activates the bell, and announces the sale using text-to-speech. The bell is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller, which polls the serial-over-USB connection every second. When signaled by the Mac, the Arduino flashes its LED then rings the bell. The ringer was made from a broken RC car's steering servo, glued to a length of wire coat hangar, ringing a cow bell my son wasn't using. The whole apparatus is suspended from an old bicycle touring rack, and affixed to a discarded kitchen cutting board.
