Richard Goldmans The Foundation March

The Foundation March was composed in 1958 and received its first performance by the Goldman Band on June 19, 1959. Prior to this march, most of Goldman's music had been avant-garde in nature; he primarily wrote for chamber groups. This march was one of his first excursions into more traditional music and was greatly influenced by march composers John Philip Sousa, and his father, Edwin Franko Goldman. THis piece was dedicated to the "Officers and Directors of the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim FOundation" in appreciation of their continued support of the Guggenheim Memorial Concerts.
