This is Uvdal on a winter day. Was just moving the camera around for some minutes in various positions, not far from the old medieval stave church :-)

Viewers from the United States: Please be aware of the fact that this valley, the Uvdal valley in the bigger Numedal valley, was one of the areas from where a lot of people emigrated to the U.S, and especially states like Minnesota, North Carolina and North and South Dakota. You may have some roots here :-)

The incomparable wooden loft building you can see between 1'03 and 1'10 is actually a very beautiful and well preserved medieval loft, approx. 800 years old. It is privately owned and belongs to the farm of Mellom Husebø (translated into Middle Huseboe Farm in English), but can be seen freely from a public road. On this farm your kids (up to the age of 14) can also enjoy horse riding, courtesy of Stall Numedal (will be The Stable Numedal in English).

Participants: Places in Uvdal, Norway.
Location: Uvdal, Norway.
Spastic low budget camera + editing: Erik Meyn.

Recorded: On October 15th, 1959.
Trivia: Reeves died in a plane crash in July, 1964.
Release: This song was released posthumously in 1966.

  • Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures with us from the States.

  • @fpoasec, well, this is in the heart of the eastern Norway and that church and a lot of the lofts here are medieval. This is an area where a lot of people migrated to the US and people like Jim and Patsy Cline and so on :-) Visit Numedal - the medieval valley and their four different medieval stave churches but, prererably in the summer. More Uvdal if you click the username :-)

  • @nadflah Thanks! I have a few friends from and in Norway.

  • Jim recorded this song on October 15, 1959, at the same session he recorded "He'll Have To Go", his biggest hit. Jim and Chet Atkins decided it was too much of a "novelty song", and were going to discard it, but Mary Reeves loved the song and kept the tape (as she did so many other times). The song was finally released in late 1966-early 1967, and was a big posthumous hit for Jim.

  • Visiting Norway just before he died in a plane crash in 1964, Mr. Jim Reeves loved the fact that predecessors of many US immigrants from this area (the greater valley of Numedal in Norway) often became country music fans :-)
