Erika Serre is a Parisian Gypsy singer of Hungarian origin who also sings in Romanian, Spanish and Italian while her Emigrante band includes Gypsy and French musicians.
"Te Vas Šukarije" is a remake of the popular folk song "Čaje Šukarije", song made famous by the macedonian singer Esma Redzepova.
The main part of the song is sung in Romani. Part of the lyrics here:
"Čajorije, šukarije,
ma phir urde pala mande,
ma phir urde pala mande, čaje!
Haljan, pekljan man, -- čaj' šukarije!
mo vodži liljan, -- čaj' šukarije!
Irin, dikh man, čaje!"
"Little girl, pretty one,
don't walk slowly behind me,
don't walk slowly behind me, girl!
You have eaten and burned me,
you have taken my heart,
turn, look at me, girl!"
