Nov. 9, 2009: Annenberg Research Seminar: Nicole Ardoin

Join students and faculty for a presentation by Nicole Ardoin, assistant professor at the school of education and center fellow, Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University. Her topic: "Sense of place and environmental behavior: Communicating and educating for environmental change." From Dr. Ardoin: "As we face increasingly pressing large-scale environmental issues, questions abound around how best to move people to action. Many researchers and conservation practitioners believe that deep, rooted place connections motivate place-protective behaviors, yet little empirical research has critically examined this assumption. In this talk, I will share results from recent research into the relationship between: sense of place; the scale at which place connections occur; and how place relationships impact environmental behavior. Based on what the findings suggest about how place connections may--or may not--impact environmental behavior at a range of geographic scales, I will discuss the implications for educating and communicating for social and behavioral change."
