Marta Keen - Homeward Bound

Lyrics:

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red.
When the summers ceased its gleaming,
When the corn is past its prime,
When adventures lost its meaning,
Ill be homeward bound in time.

Bind me not to the pasture, chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and Ill return to you somehow.

If you find its me you're missing, if youre hoping Ill return.
To your thoughts Ill soon be listning, and in the road Ill stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end.
And the path Ill be retracing when Im homeward bound again.

Bind me not to the pasture, chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and Ill return to you somehow.

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing,
Ill be homeward bound again.

  • Well, I can see that your YouTube viewers are very shy about offering advice!

Seriously, you have a beautiful tone to your voice. As someone who takes voice lessons myself, I understand that singing for recitals is all part of learning correct vocal technique. I never sing as well in front of people as I do on my own. Kudos to you for being vulnerable enough to put yourself out there for people to tear apart, and for being humble enough to take their criticism. Keep up the good work!

  • @acampbell1985

Well thank you for that, I appreciate it. You're absolutely right though I do never sing as well in front of people as I do when I'm in a practice room or sometimes even in lessons, but it's all a learning experience and I very much enjoy every aspect of it. I'm glad you even took the interest to comment on a stranger's performance and give good advice that I will be sure to utilize and hopefully result in my becoming a better singer so thank you for that as well.

  • I don't want to appear rude, but there's a lot you need to do to improve. Get that soft palate higher and don't push so much on your throat, especially when you move into your passagio. Try covering for those notes, and if you want dynamics, take power from your core, not your throat.

It also sounds like your placement is very far back in the throat. If your goal is a resonant, clear tone, you've gotta send your sound out through the mask of the face.

Sorry to dissent, hope this helps though

  • Thank you for the criticism. I do know that there is a lot I need to do to improve and you have the placement right on. It's a bad habit I formed when I was younger and I'm still in the process of reversing the process. Trust me though, the sound being in the back of my throat used to be much worse than it is now.

  • Were the girls just to look good? I would've loved to hear a trio going on...although I have to say guys always sound great, no matter what they sing.

  • Well, we were doing a concert and each of us were performing our own solo piece. So at the end of my song, one of the girls moved forward and then sang her piece, while the other girl and I would stand there. That's why I moved back after I was done. Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.
