PLOTNESS:
Spirit was the stallion of a large and thriving herd. His mate/lover (Esperanza) and he led a good life, roaming the Wild West without worry. One night, Spirit notices what he believes to be a "fallen star" on the horizon and goes off in search for it. He comes across what he is looking for and it turns out to be the smouldering embers of a camp fire. Spirit is then ambushed by humans, causing him to run off and take a quick bend into a canyon. That's when the successful lassoo attempt takes place, Spirit dragged down to the ground. Esperanza and the herd appear at the top of the canyon, Spirit pleading for her assisstance but she ignores it and leaves, leaving Spirit to the humans. Spirit is then shipped off to the army camp and, during the move, he wonders how Esperanza is feeling because he still loves her. Upon arrival, he is shocked by what he witnesses in the camp - he can't fathom the amount of horses within the stables. As the soldiers try to break Spirit each and every single one of them is bucked off which infuriates the Colonel, causing him to pull out a gun and go to shoot the stubborn horse. Just before the trigger is pulled, Little Creek leaps in and kicks the gun away from the Colonel before catching a ride on Spirit, freeing all the others horses. Little Creek calls for Rain who appears and, immediatly, Spirit is infatuated with the mare who reminds him so much of his past lover. Rain stops him and Spirit is loosely lassoed by two more Natives who take him back to his village. Spirit is willing because he's curious about Rain and the village itself. His heart begins to change, what he felt towards Esperanza is now replaced by confused emotions about Rain (the change from "this part is for her" to "this part was for her"). Despite his curiosity, he refuses to let the humans ride him, wondering why Rain and the other horses allow them to. Spirit attempts to show Rain how much he loves her but he doesn't understand why - he already had a lover. Overtime, Spirit grows to like the natives and gains their trust, also, allowing Little Creek to ride him. Upon returning, Little Creek decides Spirit and Rain should return to the wild to live happily. They say their goodbyes but, for some reason, Spirit can't leave. He tells Rain he doesn't want to leave before they race back. He returns to Little Creek and knows that the village is the place where he belongs.
