A North Shore Electroliner by 3rd Rail exits the yard and circles the test track for the camera. MTH Electric Trains is set to make its own version, which I've also ordered.

The Lionel Railsounds package on this train is probably not accurate, as Trainmaster system licensees only get generic sound sets. The extended stop near the end of the video is to allow more of the sound effects to play.

  • i wish i had a house like that

  • It's not so much the house as it is being single :)

  • I'm a Chicago guy and I've seen these many times and even rode it the last weekend of operation. The Lionel sounds are more like a diesel switcher than an electric. One bit of nitpicking, the Electroliners had the marker lights in the back during operation. You have it backing up.

  • Yes, the diesel sounds are a drawback of using Lionel Railsounds. The K-Line EP-5 has the exact same sound set. Lionel never made an electric version--or if they did, they withheld it from their licensees.

I do remember noticing the bit about the marker lights at some point since I posted the video. When I get the MTH version, I'll try to shoot both of them on the test track--and remember the marker placement.

  • When does the MTH one come out?

  • Update: As of ast week, the MTH ones are supposedly on a container ship, due to arrive on the West Coast around the end of August. Then there is shipment to headquarters, testing and distribution to dealers.

  • Just received MTH's version of this and I must say after waiting over 2 years for it I'm pretty disappointed. There's nothing wrong with it per se but I was expecting more detail and a better sound set. Could've been better.....

  • I remember the Electro-Liners well. Though they could operate in any environment while providing premium regional service, the transportation establishment never picked up on the concept.

  • WOW you job must pay well

  • I've been buying my own trains ever since I graduated high school in 1986, and I've been continuously employed ever since. Most of this stuff was bought long before I acquired a mortgage :)

It also helps when most of the trains are several months to a year or two between catalog appearance and delivery. Gives a lot of time to save up for stuff.

  • how do you by all this stuff
