It won't happen again until December 2117. On June 5th, 2012, Venus will transit the face of the sun in an event of both historical and observational importance. The best places to watch are in the south Pacific, but travel is not required. The event will also be visible around sunset from the USA.

Twice every 120 years? Yeahhhh.... Because saying "once every sixty years" is too mainstream.

Saw the 2004 transit from the UK from the top of a local hill. A very pretty sight. Not as mind-blowing as the solar corona during a total eclipse, but still something that I knew I'd only get one other chance to see. In typical UK style, the days either side of the event were clear and sunny, whilst the morning itself was almost stormy. Ah well. Here I come, next transit visible in the UK!
