Chaka "ChakFather" Blackmon gives us an overview of his workflow with Reason and Record ReWired into Logic. We visited him in the studio as he was tracking vocals with talented singer Paige Adkins and got some inside tips on how he is using submixers in Record to route audio channels into Logic.

  • Sorry if this is a Newbie question but I am just learning how to use logic pro 9 and also only just got a copy of reason 5. Do I really need Record to go back and forth between logic or can I do it from Reason alone?

What is the big difference in rewiring from Reason to logic as opposed to Record and logic?

  • @ninjasuperstar88 Reason will work great for you. Record works exactly the same but you get the additions of the big mixer in record, the Neptune pitch device, the ID8 instruments, the line6 amp simulators, and the ability to process audio tracks inside record. Otherwise they work the same with logic and rewire.

Thanks for the reply!!! I was watching the other vid you have posted up "From Reason to Record" with Josh Mobley and he states that if you have a composed song in reason with automation and effects etc that if you rewire from reason to logic that you will loose all automations but if you have record, you can direct out from the mixer and rewire to logic with automation. Is this all correct? Would I need record to rewire a completely composed (automated) Reason song to logic?

  • @ninjasuperstar88 No it's not like you're describing. I'll try to explain. If you Rewire the main output L/R of Reason to Logic, or any other DAW for that matter, then you won't lose any automation. What Josh was referring to was if you had a bunch of automation and then wanted to Rewire discreet separate outputs to Logic. That's an important distinction. For basic Rewiring you wouldn't lose anything but for advanced setups, Record's direct outputs would definitely be useful and efficient.

  • Hey, your the guy who was singing "Purple Ribbons" right?

  • @MissJsmith321 I don't think Chaka sang it himself, but yeah he produced and recorded the track. I think it was another male vocalist performing the vocal track.

  • Why not just rewire reason sounds into logic and record vocals.

Reason got great synthesizer sounds but its sequencer is a toy compared to Logic.

  • Hey everybody ! i got a problem :/ .. I'm working with reason rewired to logic and it's all great but when i see the auxillary channel strips i can't record them in logic to then export a total audio file.. Do i have to export tracks first from reason and then load and work with them in logic? isn't it kinda strange thing?

  • So proud of chakas accomplishments...so glad my family is succeeding ...

  • Where can i find that song of the girl? i cant find here in youtube.pls upload here in youtube please.
