I permanently lost respect for NatGeo when I found out that they added the typical impact sound effects you can find in many kung-fu movies for their Shaolin documentary. A much better documentary is watch?v=EMkz7lTGzQ8

Real Shaolin monks rarely leaves their monasteries or have their need to demonstrates their skills but only to defend.themselves from attackers. They practice their arts as total mind over matter. Guess it's along the lines of defeating ones own limits, probably first are emotions, then desires, then physical limitations from the body and so on.
