the via train was late getting into brampton yesterday so the go train had to stop and wait for it. love the look of the new engine but it's noisy as hell, twice the noise of the engines it replaced. these new engines are supposed to pull a 12 car trainset but on the georgetown line there are still only 10 car sets. whats up with that?

  • GO trains (and passenger trains) in general never have higher priority than freight for 2 reasons. The first: freight trains are too big and heavy to start and stop compared to a passenger train. The second: GO leases the right to use the tracks from CP/CN trackage, so they'll always get second dibs (freight makes them more money anyhow).

    Keep up the vids! ^^

  • @ fawq - noisy, but more efficient. I prefer the look and sound of the f59ph's myself but efficiency and pollution are two things that have to be factored in (as well as reliability). The reason why there are not 12 cars might be that the platforms aren't long enough. I know Brampton's platform isn't the biggest and there is nothing they can do to extend it on the station side (bridge and road on both ends).

  • Nice one! Yeah, it seems that GO trains never really have priority over any other train. I don't know why they are running them with 10 cars, probably GO Transit has made a study and they believe the Georgetown Line isn't quite ready for 12 cars. Although, the Milton Line and Lakeshore West Line all the way to Hamilton have 12 car trains. I believe there is even one or two trains that go to Bramalea Station with 12 cars.
