Ty Williams of My Flag is on Fire talks to us at pulseNV.com about his ever changing band and the music they make. They will suck you in with melodic sounds and spoon feed you cutting lyrics that hit you in the head and heart. Ty has roots in punk rock back in his early twenties. Playing the same songs and rehearsing over and over to make it sound right got a little stale so in 2005 Ty started collaborating with various musicians- doing shows around the country, but based in Reno. Their songs will stick with you and change depending on what show you are at and which musicians are in town at any given time. This is truly a independent working band.
Europa Song, their new album, will be released in late November of 2010. The music was captured in the basement of the Resco building on 5th and Wells in Reno by Kevin Bosley and Zack Girdis. The lyrics were recorded at a house in Zephyr Cove in Lake Tahoe. This is the same duo that recorded Buster Blue's album in Pipers Opera House in Virginia City.
Don't fear the name. If you think Ty wants to burn your flag you've got the wrong guy. The name came from time he spent in the Netherlands back during the first Persian Gulf war when he saw a picture of an American flag on fire. He stuck it in his scrapbook and wrote My Flag is on Fire next to the picture. You can decide the rest. It is a strong name for a band with fluid melodic notes but with roots in punk rock you will hear lyrics that are very strong and powerful. When you see them live, be careful, they will catch you.
