This baby elephant was found lost on the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. The three-month-old calf had strayed from its herd in the Baikunthapur Forest and was then spotted alone on the sandy riverbank of the Teesta River.
Forest rangers then handed him over to the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. Wardens say he is being fed milk and tender grass and is doing very well.

I know these rescuers had the elephant's best interests at heart.
I only made a generic comment about the mindset of our species. That the only way we can control animals is using chains, ropes or hooks.
I wasn't even referring to expertise.

@veggiewarriors: Because its just a couple of random people that found a baby elephant... They're not experts. They don't know that. Its not 'sick'. They're just tying him up for a short period while they contact the authorities. I would do the same thing if I rescued an elephant calf, except I'd probably give him a longer rope.

Why do they immediately tether the baby? It's sick.
Baby eles are very intelligent. Once they know you're out to help them, they trust people and don't need to have their movements controlled.
