The name, Gua Kelawar (Bats' Cave), was derived from its inhabitants, the fruit bats, which live in the 60-metre long tunnel-shaped like cave.
One of several cave attractions in Langkawi island, this 60 metre-long cave derived its name from its most notorious inhabitants, the fruit bats. The trip to Gua Kelawar (Bat Cave) is a great way to enjoy Langkawi's natural beauty as you will need to take a boat ride up Kilim River. The cave is located along one of the Kilim River tributaries.
A platform runs through the mangrove swamp all the way from the jetty into Gua Kelawar for visitors' convenience. This allows visitors to eyeball the magrove swamp and its inhabitants at leisure before venturing into the cave to admire the strange and wonderful formations of stalagtites and stalagmites there. The formations found here and in other caves around Langkawi is a sight to behold as Langkawi has a geological landscape that is more than 500 million years old.
Thanks for sharing your video of the bat caves. Not for the faint of heart.
