This is the view on the way to Brennisteinsalda which is about 45min walk from Landmannalaugar. Brennisteinsalda is extremely colorful and beautiful, in shades of yellow, pink, green, red and black. The steaming lava field you see in the image was created from an eruption in 1477. The ground is still warm and steaming. This trail is path of the famous Laugavegur trail, which then continues to the Hrafntinnusker obsidian mountain (about 3h away). The path starts behind the lava field, in the Landmannalaugar huts and goes to Thorsmork, about 50km away. The trail is usually done in 3 to 4 days. Day 1 between Landmannalaugar and Hrafnisnusker is always going up and crossing snow fields at the end. The whole region of Landmannalaugar is located at the rim of the Torfajokull volcanic caldera.
