  • @Dannys998877 If you are referring to the "comments" by "theone...", then no, they do not need to be heeded. He is like a small child that is ignored because they are foolish and ignorant and always say the same thing over and over and over, ad infinitum, ad nauseam. They do it to be spiteful because they have been rightfully ignored. An ignorant lightweight is beneath contempt and "theone..." fits that description spendidly. Visit it's subscription site and see for yourself. He and it are jokes

  • @floating00eye I intended my other comment to be a reply to your post floating00eye. Sorry I neglected to click on "Reply." BTW, this is an example of the way that all through the clips of Civilisation, someone has flagged every single negative comment as "spam". So the comment is hidden unless the reader explicitely shows it. This is a real bummer! These comments are negative, and I don't agree with them. But they ought to show up and be commented on, as you did. Thanks.

  • Lord Clark discusses the matter in detail in his companion book to the series. Thing is, the TV show needed a short title, not a paragraph of explanation. He later said that he didn't imagine that anyone could think that he didn't know about the great civilizations of Rome or Greece or the East. He gave too much credit to a mass audience that will jump on anything they can make an issue of, for its own sake.

  • @theone1087 I think the issue is that this series was only intended to cover European (or 'Western' if you will) civilisation of the past 1000 years: your critique applies equally well to the exclusion of ancient Roman and Greek civilisations. It seems fairly obvious that he doesn't mean to imply that European civilisation is the ONLY civilisation, but it is his topic of interest here. And yes, he doesn't bend over backwards to give a politically correct disclaimer clarifying that basic point
