Let me start by saying that I always use professional grade paper, never student grade. The quality of the paper will really make a difference how your colors look and how much you can do to the paper, for example scrubbing or lifting. That being said, I almost always use Arches Bright white 140 lb. cold press paper. For these technique demonstrations I did not stretch the paper, which I always do for my paintings.
