-UPDATE: 2011.12.27-
SuperDanny 2 has long since been complete, and this engine was also used for its prequel, SuperDanny Powered Up. Check Blyka's Door for downloads!
Also, the engine itself has been fine-tuned and is available for download (see video responses).
-End Update-

This is a demonstration of the Mega Man engine I've been working on for my upcoming fan game, SuperDanny 2. In addition to the basics of a Mega Man engine it shows a few obstacles and enemies that will be featured in SuperDanny 2, as well as a boss battle with Pharaoh Man.

I put much time and effort into achieving complete accuracy with the original Capcom NES engines so that it looks and plays like an official NES Mega Man game, and I'm quite satisfied with the results. =)
Made with Game Maker 7.0 Pro.

You can find preview information for SuperDanny 2 at my site:
http://blyka.legends-station.com/

PLEASE NOTE:
This engine is NOT for a Proto Man game; I just used Proto Man sprites for a change of pace while building the engine.
And YES, I am aware that the charging graphic is inaccurate with NES Mega Man games. This engine is for SuperDanny and that's how he charges, so I didn't bother with the proper flashing effect.

  • This looks to be a pretty solid engine, and I'm quite impressed. It's interesting how many people are working on custom MM engines, but I think this one and N64Mario's are probably the better ones.

Will you turn the basic engine into an example so that people can learn how to make good MM fangames from it?

  • Thanks for the comment! Glad you like the engine.

I currently have no plans for releasing it as an example.

  • Wow this was done in Game Maker? I'm impressed! :-D

I've seen some decent megaman games made under game maker, but this one looks good. Although I try to avoid using Game Maker, since it has a slow loading time at the start of any fan game, and has no real internet features from what I can tell. While MMF2 apps have no loading times, and supposedly getting that flash runtime soon, which is why I made my MM engine under MMF2. ;)

  • Wow, you really put some effort into this, didn't you? Looks real accurate from what I've seen. Keep up the good work, man.

  • You did a really good job with this game, Blyka. The gameplay mechanics are pretty much right on target with Capcom's Mega Man games which I appreciate greatly when playing them.

Everything from the height of Super Danny's jump, his walk speed, ladder climbing animations and mechanics, area transitions, etc.... feel really comfortable when playing it.

I noticed you had some very early version MM3 background graphics for Top Man's intro stage in the final release. Very nice touch. :)

  • Nice work. I wish I had time to learn how to create a standalone Megaman flash game of my own but, I guess I'll just have to stick with game specific rom editors for now.

  • @Blyka64

When making graphics with parts that are supposed to be transparent or translucent, or invisible parts, like the oil and the spikes, when selecting the sprite, click the thing that says "remove background". It removes the black part.

  • I need to make an engine for my fan game, could you give me any advice I have no idea where to start.

  • Can you please send me the engine?

  • Nice but tell me do you make examples? btw i played superdanny at blykas door really fun game! but whose danny supposed to be?

  • sorry about that mean comment, i realiesed this is just a test. but i'm still confused using game maker. im just getting started, so... any help would be nice. im planning on making my own engine.
