Final Chorus of St Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach. Performed by Malmö Chamber Choir and orchestra on April 8, 2009, in Lund Cathedral, Sweden. Conducted by prof. Dan-Olof Stenlund.
'In pains of grief, dear Lord we leave thee'. When we performed this amazing work, we were blessed to have Adrian Thompson as the Evangelist, Neal Davies as Christus to mention but two. An experience i will never ever forget.
@marcam1122 Bach's music was inspired, informed and motivated by his faith. But that still says absolutely nothing about the veracity of his inspiration
ascoltare la musica di bach vuol dire amare la natura, tutto l'universo musicale è rinchiuso su quella piccola tastiera su cui bach, il magistrale, componeva...
Others have commented on the tempo. It *is* slower than I'm used to hearing this magnificent music, but I think Stenlund and the performers make it work. I do not find it "draggy", because it doesn't become sub-divided, as slow performances can become. (Too slow, and something written in 2 can sound like it's written in 4, in unskilled hands. That is not the case here.)

In the director commentary, Martin Scorsese said he picked this to complement Saul Bass's incredible title seqeunce.

I loved the way the singers "sustained" the long notes. I thought it was beautifully sung.
