@jjjlewis Yes, I've cut off the "paper holder" since the laptop keyboard surface can be useful for holding papers. The part that prevents the device from sliding downwards scratched the face/bottom of my shiny HP laptop so now I'm using it as a cook-book stand in the kitchen.
