Thrust SSC | SSC | Thrust SSC : Breaking The Sound Barrier

A Short Video of the Thrust SSC. Thrust SSC broke the sound barrier back in October 15, 1997. It achieved a speed of 1,228 km/h (763 mph) and the SSC became the first land vehicle to officially break the sound barrier. Thrust SSC also has the the manned land speed record under its belt and has not been beaten to this day.

The twin engines developed a thrust of 223 kN (50,000 lbf) and burned around 4 Imperial gallons per second (18.2 l/s or 4.8 US gallons/s).

@guitarzero90 I'd recommend you read 'Thrust' by Richard Noble. It's an amazing look at how the project was run from start to finish, and Andy Green describes driving Thrust SSC in great detail - basically although the car was going straight he was usually holding either left or right full-lock......whilst accelerating through and beyond the sound barrier! Stunning read :)
