The Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm is an advanced polymer pistol design that competes well with proven reliable designs like Glock and Sig. Upsides include a very low bore axis, Novak low profile sights, impressive magazine capacity (17 rds in 9mm!), excellent durability, simple takedown, threaded barrel options (like this Spec-Ops model), reinforced polymer frame, outstanding ergos (with interchangeable backstraps), black Melonite-finished SS slide and a quality build throughout. Smith and Wesson flat out knows how to make guns and the MP9 is no exception. The M&P pistol is offered in a variety of frame sizes, slide lengths, finishes, and calibers. It has just a few downsides and they are minor: 3 ounces heavier than the Glock 17 standard (28.2 vs 25.2 oz) and no checkering on the front trigger guard. It still is amassing its own track record and time will be the best judge as whether the SW MP9 will rise to the level of durability that the Glock design has established but all indications are positive. You would be a wise to give serious consideration to the outstanding Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm (or other calibers) for your defensive needs.////////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 8 out of 10////////////Thanks to Impactguns.com for hosting this and many other TNP reviews!/////////////// If you own a gun of ANY kind and are not a member of the NRA you need to change your ways. Comparison to Glock 17, my 9mm standard:
WEIGHT: Advantage G17 by 3 ounces
FIREPOWER: Advantage G17 by at least 2 rounds
DURABILITY: Advantage G17 durable for over 100,000 rounds but M&P could prove just as durable
ACCURACY: Tie
ERGONOMICS: Advantage M&P (interchangeable backstraps, 1911 grip angle)
SIMPLICITY: Tie
ACCESSORIES: Advantage G17 by large margin, many available
PRICE: Tie in most locales
TRACK RECORD: Advantage G17 so far, proven world wide for decades

  • The M&P prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep

My M&P I pray to keep

Her three green eyes so big and bright

    Comfort me throughout the night

Her full firm grip fills my hand like no other in Gun land

    I squeeze her trigger tenderly

She never fails to work for me

And with the sounds of thunder from above she brings to me her Cold Steel Love.

    Amen.

  • I recently picked up a brand new M&P .40 for $500 haven't had a chance to shot it a lot yet but am liking it so far.

  • i would like to see a part 2. or glock vs S&W i think the sigma should be thrown. in there somewhere as well just an idea thanks for the vids yo.

  • @SnWTriggerMan nice poem

  • Just for nut'n to know I have seen another video for the s&w m&p and the piece that hangs down by itself when you drop the mag is the piece that holds your 'spine grip'. When you pull that out, you can change out the grip in the back if you need a smaller or bigger one depending on hand size

  • @rubadubdubxoxo your a moron!!!! Nut'n served his country for 20 years!!!! that gives hum the xcuse to dress up however he wants to while your just going to your same old boring job every day!!!

  • Pros: second best grip compared to HK P30L. So damn accurate, even in .45. Easy takedown. Very nice mag release. It's heavier than most would want, but it lets you get on target faster (just use it as a holster gun and the weight isn't a problem). The slide release is the best I've seen/felt. It's not jammed yet, though I clean it a lot to be honest. Good 3 dot sights. Cons: the trigger guard is rounded so I can't hold onto it well while shooting.

  • @CastingStonez Do you live in a state with magazine capacity restrictions? Because according to Smith's website it does still come with 17rd mags. Also, you don't need to push down the sear activation lever if you don't want to, you can just pull the trigger and the slide can come off that way as well. I picked up a LEO trade-in for $300 OTD last month.

  • No more 17 rounds...

ONLY 10 with purchase of weapon...

Also... the lanyard on the NEW models are a removal key to push down the slide lock pin inside the magazine chamber... If you dont push this slide lock pin down? The slide will NOT come off the weapon... The removable key also lets you change the palm swell... ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS to remove... lol...

There serrated slide pulls are AWESOME!!! Fingers NEVER slip when pulling slide back!

    $592 out the door...

  • the magazine disconnect does have a useful purpose.... only thing I disagree w/ in your assessment....otherwise tnx for the great review!

  • I couldnt decide between a glock, the m&p 45, and fnx 45. But last week i picked up a full-sized m&p 45 for $480 brand new. I took it to the range and shot 100 rounds and it didnt malfunction once. Its a great gun. I recomend it to anyone.
