Tim Russert joined NBC News in 1984; the beginning of a 24 year run that brought him national acclaim and the admiration of his colleagues at NBC and elsewhere. It also gave American television viewers a tenacious interviewer famous for confronting the mighty with statements they once made and might now regret. From 1991 until his death this in June of 2008 he moderated Meet the Press, Americas most-watched Sunday morning interview program. Surviving a Tim Russert interrogation was considered an essential challenge for many an aspiring national politician, what Newsweek correspondent Howard Fineman coined the Tim Russet test.

Russert also anchored a weekly interview show on CNBC, The Tim Russert Show, and served as Senior Vice-President and Washington Bureau Chief of NBC News. Russert authored two best-selling books—Big Russ and Me (2004) and Wisdom of Our Fathers (2006), and received numerous honors over the course of his career.

This video was created for the 29th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards. Following the video tribute, Russert's wife and son accepted a special recognition from the National Academy.

  • We need a man like Tim right now to ask all the right questions about this economic fiasco we are being forced to live through.

  • I just read BIG RUSS & ME..Tim loved his dad so much!

Ironic he talks about his mom praying to St Anthony when something was lost, and Tim died on feast of St Anthony, June 13th..a year ago tomorrow.

RIP Tim, you were one of a kind!!

  • RIP Tim Russert. I don't think I can say anymore than we lost a great person that day in 2008. I have not watched Meet the Press since the tribute they did to him on that Sunday following his death.

  • This is the guy who got killed for bringing up skull and bones with bush and kerry right? Lol I hope people remember those two because now they're here again as Perry and Romney.

R.I.P. to a guy with balls

  • @heavenshaffer I wonder what Tim would ask President Obama if he were alive right now.

  • @olentangy74 My father was very sad when Tim died. He was a great journalist and great host of Meet The Press. He knew how to grill the folks that came on: reporters, pundits, and politicians of course. He knew how to get them to be honest which is so important when it comes to news. Journalism is not dead, it's just different and a little scary now but it can become great again I think that's what Tim would want. I just hope my dad is with Tim if there is an other side.

  • He was all about simplicity. Pull out a white board or a Owls sign. Ask atough honest question.

  • R.I.P.

  • Such a loss. Journalism died with Tim Russert.

  • RIP Tim...still missed to this day!

  • I really wish that Tim Russert lived to make it to see the Obama election. I wish that his son was the moderater of Mee The Press.
