  • @51georg yeah well the US forest service hid the trails so you cant find it unless you truely know where it is. They did a pretty good job of it too

  • Yeah way too many people have been going there, carving up the rocks and leaving trash everywhere. It's a shame how many people disrespect Red River Gorge. Last time I was there it was pretty bad.

  • the staircase is an awesome place. in reguards to what ttom said about packing a rope, we bring a 300 footer and the rappelling from frogs head is well worth it. each to their own. i think its cool these people are making the effort to go out there, especially now that they took the staircase off the new gorge maps and rangers won't tell people how to get there to keep traffic down.

  • Indian Staircase is a cool place

  • O.k. , I'll ammend my comment.

No "physical" reason for rope there.

I'm not hating , I find it kinda cute.

Considering they are a hiking club.

Also , any length of rope would be a chore to lug on that hike.

    I wouldn't say it's a rough descent , because its all mental.

I'll give you this , it is intimidating , but half moon is a more physically demanding climb.

I do like seeing good people like these down there so I would not be mean if I saw them.

I would say "bless their hearts" though.

  • i don't use a rope either, but i rock climb...indian staircase is probably a little rough for hikers not used to 4th class stuff.

  • Absolutely , no need for rope there.

    It's a little steep , but...I concur with silentsealx.

    no need for rope there.

  • No need for a rope there
