Yeah I was gonna add that it was out on the arcades first, but i didnt want to double post. I also made a mistake, the arcade version was out 2 months before the NES version, sorry bout that.

Yeah, I loved this game on the PS1, played the thing into the ground when it came out. I do a lot of old school console gaming and decided to play this through again, I am actually done now and am currently replaying Final Fantasy VII. =)

The character actually came from a Japanese Manga published in 1988 I believe and made its video game debut on the NES in 1989. The rest is history. If you ever get a chance to actually play any of the "Strider" games, they are a great deal of fun.

Actually, Strider made a debut on the Sega Genesis, followed by the NES a couple of months later. The Genesis version is considered a classic game by many...the NES version not so much.

Strider was released in the arcades first in 1989, as HaydenX says above, but I often don't count this version as its real debut as it was not widely popular here in the US, but it was very popular in Japan. A few months later the NES version was released, and that's the one that hooked me. There were also several computer ports released that same year. The Sega version came in 1990 as one of the first 8-Megabit carts for the system and was probably the most popular version here in the US.
