http://www.ted.com In this funny (and actually poignant) 3-minute talk, social strategist Renny Gleeson breaks down our always-on social world -- where the experience we're having right now is less interesting than what we'll tweet about it later.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. • I find it interesting that in our attempt to "connect" we actually lose our connection to the outside world.

  • Humanity is overrated. Anti-social all the way!

  • It clearly states that we have become so entrenched in self that we have placed all others as mere incidentals in our lives to the point that they do not deserve the respect of our devoted attention. The fallacy of the belief that one should just live in the moment means that you place no stock in your future.

  • Well not owning a cellphone period, I think, is a bit over the top. I find it IS circumstancial, but am very grateful in those instances to have one. Think being stranded, informing people you might be late or early or whatnot. That said I am infinitely annoyed at how a lot of people are simply abusing texting and have become zombies. I find it incredibly insulting if they check their texts while in a conversation, or even answer a non-urgent call.
