I wish there was enough of a fanbase to create a point-and-click version of Legend games (similar to how many of the early King's Quest series have been converted to purely point-and-click). These games have such a great plot.

Yup, one could say Legend games were... er... legendary. Not insanely hard, but tough nuts enough to crack to give you a genuine satisfaction of success. Besides Gateways, the one I liked perhaps the best was Mission Critical. An original story, but very "Pohlian". Didn't like the fantasy / mystery games too much, although Eric the Unready was bad enough humour to be fun. If you didn't get to play Mission Critical, I recommend you dig it up from some abandonware site.

@Joonavainio I'm not sure if I used walkthrough the first time I played it, but the last time I didn't..but yeah quite hard. I loved some of the Legend games. Basically all the ones that were based on a book. And I've read the Gateway books thanks to this game :) I've read Rama too, I remember I enjoyed it - but never finished the game...

I must admit the endgame in this second episode was so damn hard I had to resort to the walkthrough. Otherwise Legend games tend(ed) to be logical if you just thought a bit. But in the endgame you had to do exactly this and that and with a time limit, too.
Anyway, it didn't spoil the enjoyement of delving into the Pohl Heechee universe again at all. I've tried Rama, but somehow it just ain't my cup of tea.

@Joonavainio Yep Robinette - and I agree ;)

Robinette Broadhead, you mean? Yeah, it got pretty weird after his incarnation as a virtual personality upload. But an interesting idea. I'm sure the Matrix dudes have read their Pohl. And the idea of humans transforming to immortal pure energy beings as the Assassins is kinda lucrative. In any case, artificial or uploaded intelligences are... fascinating, as Spock would say.

@Joonavainio No offense taken at all ! Just wanted to say that I really enjoy this stuff - Legend games particulary...and sci-fi. I like to play VGA games even, the old adventures, X-COM etc. :) Shrink is cool, yeah, I enjoyed the main character (millionaire) and his life. Since his death it started to be a little ... weird :D but still great.

Was not my intention to belittle anyone, sorry. The novels and (now retro) games are there for all to enjoy. My favourite character is Sigmund von Shrink. Too bad he's not in the games.
-
@Joonavainio Well I'm 29, played both games and read most of the novels ;-)

Hahah! Some of us are a bit ancient, like 40 something and played both games. And read al the novels. But honestly put, they deteriorated a bit like sequels woefully often do. Nevertheless, I am all with you to fight the Assassins.
I love this freakin game!! part 2 is just as good, i have a hard time figuring out which one is better...

Damn rights, my first computer game. (Along with the first Gateway). Just like an awesome book, just couldn't put it down. Glad to see another enthusiast. Props
Will be waiting to see the entire walk-through!
Cheers!
