I think everybody on this thread part is right basically...the typical activity that Arenal displays (or did) was incandescent rocks tumbling down the flanks after breaking off from the summit lava dome so those rocks are actually lava, plus strombolian explosions have also regularly occurred and as a result of it it throws up alot of lava rocks which then falls back down on the volcano and tumbles down the flanks...Arenal did produce lava flows but they were thick and slow moving.

IS this is really Arenal?? The type of magma under Volcan Arenal is very explosive and this seems to be very runny magma...
