  • extraordinary...even during the worst of times as Americans we could finance, create and build

can we every return to these days?

  • I agree. Something changed in those few decades following our last World War... and, for better or for worse, we'd never quite build to the same scale again

  • I miss the days new york was called nieuw amsterdam

  • Awesome, greetings from europe. Long live our friendship :D

  • Such an awesome building! I have my only pictures from the top (May 2003) that are on a dead laptop I have in a closet. I really could use some advice as how I could retrieve them.

  • Uberopoplis! Gotham! Bip Apple! The City that never sleeps!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  • Fascinating look back. Thank you for it.

Although the romanticism of nostalgia and appreciation somewhat glosses over the real fears at play -- the workers' intensity during the Depression, the owners' fear of getting tenants in a down economy, etc. - this kind of romanticism is quite practical. It tells us that if we do the hard work during tough times, that one day we can look back with satisfaction on a job well done.

(And even though Top of the Rock is more fun to visit nowadays... ;) )

  • you should part 1 and so on...

  • Not a knock on any people, events or ideas associated with it, but that building itself is evil. You can just tell.

  • Great History, Great City, Great Country!

Those were the days, Even the Steel was made here in America, Pittsburgh!
