Win Ashes Tickets, Click Here: http://tr.im/AshesTickets England star Kevin Pietersen is not expecting the potential absence of Brett Lee to blunt Australias edge when the Ashes begins on Wednesday.

Australia fast bowler Lee, 32, was dispatched for scans on a sore left rib today and is a major doubt for the Test series opener in Cardiff.

Despite suggestions Australia would have to re-think their bowling attack for the first two matches of five, the tourists management this afternoon confirmed they have yet to assess the results of the scans.

Whatever the outcome, however, Pietersen is anticipating Australia beginning the campaign in their customary aggressive manner.

Hes a superstar performer, said Pietersen, of Lee, who incurred the discomfort in the draw with England Lions, in which he claimed six first-innings wickets.

We have seen that in the last couple of games. We also know whatever team Australia put out is going to be a very good cricket side.

Whether Brett plays or not we know the Australian team is going to be strong. They definitely wont be weakened.

Australia have begun the last two Ashes series in positive fashion, winning at Lords to lift the curtain on the memorable 2005 summer and then comfortably beating England in Brisbane in 2006-07.

Pietersen, who made his debut in the corresponding Test of four years ago, said: We are going to have to play some positive cricket, intelligent cricket and dominant cricket throughout the series.

We go into the series as underdogs but we have home advantage. It will be a tough series.

  • Aussies conceed 2 500+ and 2 600+ runs

  • I agree with 08thepower and Britishbulldog.Aussies are mighty arrogant when it comes to sport especially when the ashes come around they get real arrogant. So congrats to England for whipping aussie asses in 05 and 09 in England. I hope England wacks these idiots when England tours there in 10/11. I certainly hope to be at the MCG to see England reduce these loud mouthed aussies to dust once and for all. I certainly will be praying for England to thrash Australia in Australia. Good luck England!

  • talk about whinging poms, thought you aussies could take a good kicking, as you say NO WORRIES MATE.

  • sill sure ? lol. should be good theis series

  • very true, i was just pissed off

should turn out to be an interesting series

  • yh ino. im not going to deny it. but, that isnt down to England cheating. Its down to the umpires who are clueless. But as much as it hurts. You have to admit that England deserved to win that tesy overall. And the same for the assies in the first test that, they deserved to win but you cant really blame anything for that it was going to happen.
