I Found Love- One Shot

I looked around at the empty road. My best friends in the world were supposed to be coming down this very road any moment, now. I'd missed them six months while they were on tour, and while I'd finished my senior year in high school. I sighed as their big bus never showed. My heart raced with every empty moment when no car came. What had happened? I sat down on the sidewalk, hoping they were just running a little bit late. Unconsiously, I held my cell phone in my hand as I stared at the spot they'd turn onto the road. I waited over an hour. No car. My heart leaped when my cell phone rang. The screen said that Joe was calling me. I sighed in relief. I hit the answer button and put the phone to my ear.
"Joe!" I smiled.
"U-Um... Hello Sierra."
I bit my lip anxiously. He sounded horrible. What had happened?
"Joe, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Nick," he whispered, "got hit by a drunk driver when he was walking back to the bus from the building."
I didn't say anything. I couldn't say anything. I could hear tears in Joe's voice. Was Nick really DEAD? Joe continued when I didn't reply.
"We got him to the hospital, but he was really hurt. He's been in surgery for about two hours, now, and I'm really scared. I realized you'd been waiting, so I called."
I closed my eyes, letting out tears. Oh, Nick... My stomach churned at the thought of what could happen. I let out a few little sobs.
"Kevin and I will come get you. STAY THERE. Just don't leave the spot you wait for us at, okay? We'll be there in about half an hour. Will you be okay?" he asked.
"Hurry," I whispered.
Joe stayed on the phone with me until they got there. He knew me well enough to know that if someone wasn't talking to me, I could just break down. When they arrived onto the street, I stood and wiped my face a little. They parked in front of me and got out. Joe grabbed my shoulders and looked me in the eyes fiercely.
"He'll be fine," Joe said, his voice quivering with his own doubt.
I shook my head a little, and Kevin hugged me. Joe and I got into the back and I had my head on his shoulder sadly the entire trip back. When we arrived, we went straight to the waiting room. I saw Denise in tears, hugging Kevin SR. Danielle was rubbing Frankie's back, and he was sitting in the chair, sadly hugging his knees to his chest. I sat next to him, and looked up at me with sad puppy dog eyes. I hugged him, then heard a voice say quietly,
"Nicholas Jonas- and NOT his fans."
We all rushed up to him, all of us in tears. The male doctor sighed at all of us, tired from the long, strenuous surgery session.
"Nicholas is in a critical condition right now. We did the best that we could to stop the bleeding and sew up open wounds. He had a few broken bones, but that wasn't too bad. His heart is weak, it's even worse with his diabetes. I would say that only one person at a time should be allowed, and that two is pushing it. He's unconsious, and he won't wake up for a little bit."
My heart hurt so badly. What if Nick didn't pull through?! I closed my eyes.
"Mom, you go." Kevin suggested, but she was already walking down the hall.
I watched her open the door and stop in the entryway. I watched her face looked a little disturbed. How bad could he have gotten hit?!
"Sierra," Joe sighed in anguish.
Joe hugged me tightly, trying to stay strong. After a few others, it was my turn to go in.I took a deep breath as I opened the door. I saw Nick laying there. His face was cut up badly, and his arm was in a sling, along with his leg. I pulled a chair up to his right. I gently laid my hand over his good hand. I closed my eyes.
"Nick," I moaned, "you better pull through or I'm taking your guitars."
I wouldn't really. I was trying- and failing- to lighten the mood.
"I don't know how I could keep going if you died," I whispered, then paused.
The words stuck in my throat. I knew they were true, deep inside my heart. But my brain had just comprehenced it.
"I love you," my voice cracked and quiverred.
I stood up, and leaned over his face. His lips had been unscathed, so I gently placed my lips over his mouth. I pulled back almost instantly when his heart moniter shot through the roof. His eyes had opened and I saw a soft smile on his face. He might not have looked nearly as beautiful as before, but his eyes were lit with a sort of passion that I couldn't describe.
"I love you, too." he whispered, the heart moniter going by quickly. Doctors came in to see what had happened. I stepped out of the room and ran my fingers through my hair. A few minutes later, the same doctor as before came back out.
"He's fine. I don't know what happened. He just keeps saying he thought of something that made him happy. A girl. I don't know. But he's fine."
I smiled to myself. He was going to be perfectly fine in time. Happier than before, if I could help it.
