TIME LAPSE WHS 2011 RACKMOUNT BUILD!

In this video I build a rackmount WHS 2011 system!

I go through my upgrade from the original Windows Home Server to WHS 2011. I also upgrade my case from a mid tower case to a 2U rackmount case (Norco RPC-250) and use some new hardware (including a couple of WD 1TB Green drives) as well.

It all gets mounted in my server rack located in my basement which also houses a 16TB Unraid server in a 4U Norco RPC-4020.

Check out the main build video here:

  • Question: what do you use the multimeter for?

  • @woundupuy Just checking to be sure as there are several 3 pin connectors which power the stock fans.

  • Would it be overkill with a modular powersupply? seems "cleaner"

  • @Reichiruu IMO Nothing is overkill if it is within budget ;-)

  • why stock cooler?

  • @6computer6 The AC cooler fan was starting to make some bad noises so I went back to the stock cooler.

  • @scooter99tube Did you figure out the difference between the 4-pin molex and the dual 3-pin fan connectors on the fan assembly? Thank you for making this video, very well done sir.

  • I recently got interested in server hardware. I want to know how to make my own server machine from parts. For example, how people are able to build their own computer from parts, can the same be applied for server machines? If so, instructions would be nice. Gonna look around youtube for more information.

  • I was just wondering, would you be able to put a big graphics card in there like for example ATI HD 5970

like if you were to buy a bigger motherboard with more PCI slots, would you be able able to the the graphics cards or would they be too big, and the case wouldnt close?
