I'd imagine it hadn't really hit him yet. For the majority of people, for something major like that, it takes days, weeks, even months, for it to truly sink in, and then it stays with you a very long time. Combine that with a reporter asking idiotic, obvious questions, and you're gonna get comments like the "drag" one.

He doesn't have to explain. He only has to explain to morons.

A guy he knew since their early teen years, who shared their dreams and lives together, who went through the whole Beatles thing together, his bandmate and songwriting partner ..... was brutally killed. And the reporters are shoving microphones in his face asking him how he felt. Ho do you THINK he felt, you assholes? How would YOU feel? They were like brothers and I'm sure he was absolutely devastated. I don't need an explanation.

He's being 'pissy' at such a stupid question. How the hell do they think he felt? He didn't want to talk about it to those idiots.

People wanted to see Paul fall to his knees and raise his hands in the sky why yelling "WHY!!!!!!!" as the camera went up. But he didnt give you what you wanted, so you tell us how he really felt.

I remember this - and no one told me what to think of his comment - but I thought it was very insensitive at the time. It may have been the start of the Paul backlash. I love Paul but he was a silly boy on that occasion, let's face it

You can tell that Paul was shaken up by his body movements and facial expressions, he was holding back from totally breaking down in front of the media. The "drag" comment just came out from the stress of it all. Nobody is in total composure under those circumstances.

Some Beatle fans to this day still bash Paul for the "drag" comment. You could tell from the video that he was fighting not to break down and I'm sure the media would've loved that. Also he was still dealing with the initial shock of someone he knew since his childhood being brutally killed.
