People stop debating why he did or not fall, he neither "fell" nor "tripped", you can clearly see he bends slightly and throws himself on his side, onto some kind of stuffed layer, using his right arm as protection. It was probably a scene for editing to build the helicopter jump scene.
Before you criticise, imagine yourselves at age 64. And before you criticise the criticism, look at the video for yourselves so you notice he didn't trip.
