i think he was superbe even in the slowness. this way he could show his prot de bras and his elegance, wich is very used in the POB style. they play and dance everything slower than thew rest.
Perhaps, but I really think the blame falls equally on both sides on a case to case basis. I would never ask for such a tempo even though I am sure I could fill it out. I think dancing within the confines of a sensible sounding tempo is how it was intended and is beautiful.
@mrlopez2681 I'm definitely not saying that this is usually the case because there are plenty of good conductors out there who can somewhat accommodate the dancer's tempo without sacrificing or distorting the music.
@mrlopez2681 I cannot agree with you at all. The music was clearly too slow for him. I'm pretty sure he didn't ask for it that way, especially seeing as how Alessio doesn't have a very big jump and doesn't do that many pirouettes. My last orchestra experience was like this for Blue Bird Pas de deux's coda-(Dreadfully slow)- I have a sizable ballon but I had actually asked for it to be played faster in the rehearsals but it just got slower and slower. Didn't sound good at all.

perhaps the conductor was just used to slow tempi via dancers. its an epidemic in ballet.

it ins't the orchestra's fault - its the dancer's - this what nearly all modern-day ballet dancers do to the music of many ballets.
